Landcare promotes the continuous improvement
of economic, social, and environmental conditions through business,
land management, and lifestyle practices that care for the land.
-
Landcare practices
connect people with the land in ways that improve the condition
of both. Careful management takes place on farms and forests,
along streams and streets, and in lawns and gardens.
-
Landcare communities strive to improve
their places, environments, and economies.
-
Landcare partnerships
include landowners, non-governmental organizations, businesses,
government agencies, community leaders, and other interested
stakeholders. Landcare is successful when it is locally led
and state-supported.
-
Landcare enterprises
prosper on the common ground
where economic development and land conservation goals overlap.
Employment and prosperity generated by landcare enterprises help
communities thrive by improving their environments.
-
Regional landcare promotes
the continued and careful management of
working farms, forests, and other open spaces that provide
ecosystem services and green infrastructure supporting a region's communities.
-
Landcare is a global movement involving
millions of people with successful experiences in more than 18
countries.
-
The power of landcare comes from people sharing the lessons they
have learned on the ground. We are assembling many
tools and resources on this website,
as well as attempting to build a forum where landcare
practitioners can network and continue to learn from each other.
-
Landcare is practiced by everyone, everywhere.

The purpose of
this website is to build the capacity of the landcare movement to
improve landscapes, lifestyles, and livelihoods. The website
is designed to facilitate learning and action on the part of a
community of practice made up of landcare practitioners and
supporters. The site is hosted by the Landcare Center, a network of
people and organizations working together to advance the landcare
movement. Leadership for the Landcare Center is provided by
Virginia Tech. For more information or to contribute, please contact us at
landcare@vt.edu. |
